What areas of the skin can be treated?

The EXILIS system is used for body contouring, to target unwanted fat, cellulite reduction, and to improve the tone and texture of the skin across the body. It can be used for treatments on the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, knees, back, male chest, and arms and to address common concerns including banana roll (the upper back of the thighs), saddle bags (the outer side of the thighs), love handles, bra rolls, man boobs, and bingo wings.

EXILIS can also be used for skin tightening to give lift and tone to lax skin, reducing lines and wrinkles and rejuvenating the face and certain areas of the body. It can be used for treatments on the chest or décolletage, hands and forearms, neck, cheeks, forehead, around the eyes, lips and around the mouth, and under the chin.

The EXILIS ULTRA FEMME provides a wonderful solution for female intimate concerns which may become worse post childbirth or during the various stages of the menopause, including peri- and post-menopause. Many women suffer in silence with day-to-day discomfort due to vaginal dryness, urinary incontinence, a lack of sexual satisfaction due to decreased vaginal tightness, painful sex, or discomfort and displeasure with stretched or elongated labia. This treatment can be applied to both the vulva, the outer intimate area including the labia and perineum (often damaged during childbirth) to tighten the skin, and within the vagina to tighten the vaginal canal. The aim is to relieve what are often painful symptoms, boost your self-confidence, and improve intimate function and satisfaction; we do not seek to design the perfect vagina.

Will I need a consultation for EXILIS treatment?

Yes, you will be required to attend a consultation before you can undergo treatment with either EXILIS or EXILIS ULTRA FEMME to take a full medical history and rule out any underlying medical conditions, allergies, medications, or implants which would make you unsuitable for this treatment. If you are generally in good health, you should be able to have an EXILIS treatment as it is suitable for men and women and all skin types.

What can I expect during treatment?

Treatment with EXILIS is performed with you lying down on a couch so you can relax during the procedure. The EXILIS ULTRA FEMME treatment requires you to be in a semi-seated position with your legs apart.

The EXILIS system has various applicator heads for use during treatment including a large applicator for larger body areas and a small applicator often used on the face. These are continuously moved over the surface of the skin in circular movements during treatment. The EXILIS ULTRA FEMME applicator is specifically designed to treat the vulva on the outside and for insertion into the vagina and vaginal canal so includes a special tip.

Before we can start the procedure, a single-use, grounding electrode must be placed on the skin. This will either be placed on your buttock during a body or vaginal treatment, or on your back, under the area of your shoulder blade on your right for a face treatment. It has an adhesive layer and will be pressed firmly onto your skin for full contact. This ensures that the radiofrequency flows between the applicator and the grounding electrode safely.

Your skin will be cleansed, and a gel applied to help the EXILIS applicator glide across your skin with full contact during a face or body treatment. The same gel can be applied to the single-use, disposable ULTRA FEMME applicator and the probe is moved slowly back and forth deeply once within the vagina as it delivers the treatment, followed by further application with a different disposable tip on the outer vulval areas to complete the treatment.

How long does EXILIS treatment take?

The time is takes to perform an EXILIS treatment will depend on the size of the area being treated and the concern being targeted. Treatment sessions are usually between 15 and 30 minutes long, although your overall appointment will be a little longer.

The EXILIS ULTRA FEMME treatment takes approximately 8 minutes to treat the vaginal canal and 3-4 minutes for the vulva and vaginal opening.

How many treatment sessions are recommended?

The number of EXILIS treatment sessions required will depend on the area being treated and the concern that is being addressed; a bespoke treatment plan will be created for you during your consultation.

Usually, you will require between 2 and 4 sessions for most EXILIS treatments, spaced one week apart. Although, 3 treatments, spaced 1-2 weeks apart are recommended for the EXILIS ULTRA FEMME programme.

Is EXILIS treatment safe?

The EXILIS system uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to create heat within the tissue, a technology that is widely used in aesthetic and medical applications, alongside ultrasound energy to disrupt fat cells, where required. The device meets various strict safety standards to ensure that it delivers the RF and ultrasound in a controlled manner during treatment. The system also has an integrated cooling system so we can be sure that we only heat the tissue we are targeting to the correct temperature and for the right amount of time to keep you comfortable and ensure a safe treatment.

What conditions are contraindicated for EXILIS or EXILIS ULTRA FEMME treatment?

If you are generally in good health, you should be able to have either an EXILIS or EXILIS ULTRA FEMME treatment. However, there are certain medical conditions that will preclude you from treatment, and we can discuss alternative options for you following a full consultation where your medical history will be evaluated.

Certain underlying medical conditions can mean that you are contraindicated for treatment. Examples include those which affect your heart, kidneys, or liver, diabetes, epilepsy, cancers, neurological disorders, or factors which impact on healing, scarring, blood coagulation, or immune system function.

Similarly, if you have an active bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infection in the area to be treated, this will need to be managed and resolved first. Other skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea also require management. Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use should not be within the last 12 months.

If you have any permanent implants near the area to be treated or near the location of the grounding electrode required to be placed on your body during treatment, including metal implants, you cannot be treated with radiofrequency. The same is true for electrical implants anywhere in the body, such as pacemakers or internal defibrillators.

Specifically for intimate treatments, these cannot be performed if you are experiencing a postnatal period after childbirth or are currently menstruating, (we will arrange your appointment accordingly), have an active sexually transmitted infection, or have an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD/coil) fitted.

If you are pregnant, breast feeding or undergoing fertility treatment, you will also not be able to have treatment.

Does treatment with EXILIS hurt?

The treatment with EXILIS is not painful, although you will feel a sensation of warming or heating, some people have likened it to a hot stone massage. If you feel any additional discomfort, we will be on hand to assist and can adjust the settings to make your more comfortable if required.

The same is true with the EXILIS ULTRA FEMME treatment, you can expect to feel the sensation of heat close to the entrance to your vagina during treatment, but this sensation will be much lower in the deeper areas of the vaginal canal.

Is there downtime after a EXILIS treatment?

Treatment with the EXILIS system is non-invasive so there is no requirement for recovery time, and you can return to your normal daily activities (including sexual activity) immediately after treatment. You may experience some mild redness immediately after treatment due to the application of heat which will fade quickly.

When will I see results?

This will be dependent on the type of indication that we have treated with the EXILIS system.

Usually, you can expect to notice an improvement in your skin tone immediately after your first treatment due to the contraction of the tissue.

In the case of EXILIS ULTRA FEMME, you may immediately note improvements in continence function and sexual sensitivity. Increased blood flow to the area and collagen remodelling will continue to tighten the vagina and improve sexual function.

Due to the way the system works by creating a controlled injury deep within the tissue, the results are incremental because your body is stimulated to heal naturally and produce new collagen and elastin that will continue to tighten, lift, and smooth the skin on your face and body, or within your vulva and vagina. This process continues after each treatment session, and you can expect to see the optimal result approximately 3 months after your last treatment session. You may even see continued improvement up to 6 months afterwards.

How long does a EXILIS last?

To ensure long-lasting results, either from fat reduction or skin tone improvement, it is vital that you maintain a healthy lifestyle, ensuring a good diet, exercise, sun avoidance or adequate sun protection, and the avoidance of smoking and excess alcohol consumption which can all have a detrimental effect on your skin health.

You can expect the results from EXILIS and EXILIS ULTRA FEMME to last 12-18 months, sometimes longer depending on the area treated. We recommend a top-up treatment every 6-12 months to maintain your results. Maintenance treatments are especially recommended with EXILIS ULTRA FEMME if you go on to have further children, or as you progress through menopause and the associated changes it brings.

Although, you will not be advised to undertake an exercise or diet programme, we find that the results achieved with the EXILIS system for fat reduction act as a great motivator for further efforts to improve body shape.
