What areas of the skin can be treated?

EMFACE combines two innovative therapies into one treatment – radiofrequency and high intensity facial electromagnetic stimulation – making it a great anti-ageing solution. The needle-free procedure is designed to achieve full facial rejuvenation by lifting tissue and reducing lines and wrinkles. Treatment is targeted using the hands-free applicators across the forehead and cheeks, to improve the overall appearance of the face.

Will I need a consultation for EMFACE?

Yes, you will need to attend a consultation before you can undergo treatment with EMFACE to take a full medical history and rule out any underlying medical conditions, allergies, medications, or implants which would make you unsuitable for this treatment. If you are generally in good health, you should be able to have an EMFACE treatment as it is suitable for men and women and all skin types.

What can I expect during treatment?

Firstly, we will cleanse your face ready for treatment. It is ideal if you can attend your appointment without wearing make-up and remove any jewellery, such as face piercings. Your hair will be moved away from your face using a head band.

Before we can start the procedure, a single-use, neutral electrode must be placed on the skin on your back, around the area of your shoulder blade on your right. It has an adhesive layer and will be pressed firmly onto your skin for full contact. This ensures that the high-frequency electric current flows between the applicators and the neutral electrode safely.

As you lay on the couch, single-use, hands-free applicators will be placed over your forehead and cheeks and the treatment commenced. These have a hydrogel layer that stick to your skin. Most people relax and enjoy the treatment at this point.

How long does EMFACE take?

Each EMFACE treatment session is timed to 20 minutes. Your full appointment will be a little longer to allow for time to apply and remove the applicators.

How many treatment sessions are recommended?

A bespoke treatment programme will be designed for you based on your skin concerns and our joint goals. We usually recommend four treatment sessions with EMFACE which are spaced 5-10 days apart.

What conditions are contraindicated for EMFACE treatment?

If you are generally in good health, you should be able to have EMFACE treatment. However, there are certain medical conditions that will preclude you from treatment, and we can discuss alternative options for you following a full consultation where your medical history will be evaluated.

Certain underlying medical conditions can mean that you are contraindicated for treatment. Examples include those which affect your heart, kidneys, or liver, diabetes, epilepsy, cancers, neurological disorders, or factors which impact on healing, scarring, blood coagulation, or immune system function.

Similarly, if you have an active bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infection in the area to be treated, this will need to be managed and resolved first. Other skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea also require management. Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use should not be within the last 12 months.

If you have any permanent implants near the area to be treated or near the location of the neutral electrode required to be placed on your back during treatment, including metal implants, you cannot be treated with radiofrequency. The same is true for electrical implants anywhere in the body, such as pacemakers or internal defibrillators.

If you are pregnant, breast feeding or undergoing fertility treatment, you will also not be able to have treatment.

Does EMFACE hurt?

As the applicators apply the energy to your face, you will feel muscle contractions (from the HIFES) and a heating or warming sensation (from the radiofrequency). This is not painful and is well tolerated by most people. It is compared to a hot stone massage.

If you feel any significant discomfort, your practitioner is on hand to help. They will be monitoring your treatment and regularly asking you how you feel. You will not be left unattended. Should you need it, you will also have access to a special Therapy Discomfort Button if you feel sudden pain. This will pause the procedure so settings can be adjusted and checked to ensure you are comfortable before recommencing treatment. This is usually not required but is there for your peace of mind.

Is there downtime after a EMFACE treatment?

After your EMFACE treatment session, you can return to your normal daily routine and go back to work immediately with no downtime or recovery required. You will experience some mild redness immediately after treatment, from the effect of heating, but this will fade quickly.

When will I see results?

You will start to notice an improvement in the tone of your skin immediately after your first treatment session due to the contraction of the tissue. The results are incremental as your body is stimulated to produce new collagen and elastin in your facial tissue that will continue to lift, tighten, and smooth out wrinkles on your face. This process continues after each treatment session, and you can expect to see the optimal result approximately 3 months after your last treatment session. Continued improvement can be noted up to 6 months afterwards.

How long does am EMFACE last?

This is somewhat dependent on your lifestyle and continued natural ageing. Sun exposure, smoking, and alcohol can all influence an individual’s face and the longevity of results. Your optimal result from EMFACE is expected to last approximately a year. We recommend an annual maintenance treatment to keep your results on top form.
