WHAT IS FAT FREEZING IT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Fat Freezing is a growing trend amongst aesthetic clinics. Cryolipolisis to refer to it by its’ technical name is the process of freezing fat cells to minus temperatures to effectively target and disrupt the fat cells which are then removed through the liver as part of the body’s natural process.

The technology was first discovered after doctors in America noticed that children who ate a lot of ice lollies experienced fat degradation in their cheeks and realised that the ice had a reducing effect on the fat.

There are various different fat freezing systems available which work on the same premise that the area being treated is frozen to -10C for a set period of time. Recent advances in fat freezing systems mean that this procedure is now much more affordable than it used to be.

According to latest reports over two thirds of us put on weight during lockdown, and sent sales of alcohol and ice-cream soaring. Whilst its easy to put weight on, getting it back off again is much tougher. This is where Fat freezing can really help.

At ERA Clinics we use the Cryoliposculpt™ system which uses vacuum suction and a microcurrent to efficiently target stubborn areas of fat whilst also toning the tissues, to ensure you are not left with flabby areas. We also offer cavitation which effectively “melts” fat in areas which are not able to fit into the vacuum cups. Cavitation is recommended for outer thighs, “beer belly’s” and the buttock area.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

The most common areas for treatment are the stomach, thighs, buttocks, back and arms. We also regularly treat “bra fat” the area which often overhangs bra straps which can be both uncomfortable and bothersome when wearing fitted clothing. Double chins can be safely treated with this procedure and we also see good results in the knee area.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE CONSULTATION?

Before embarking upon fat freezing or cavitation treatment its important to come in to the clinic for a full consultation. The initial consultation will take around an hour. Your therapist will take a full medial history to ensure your suitability for treatment and explain how the treatment works, including discussing any potential side effects.

Your therapist will then assess and discuss the areas requiring treatment and build a treatment plan with you. Measurements and photographs will be taken to monitor results during the treatment period.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING TREATMENT?

Before your fat freezing treatment begins, your therapist will mark the area to be treated and a protective membrane will be applied to your skin prior to the Cryoliposculpt™ handpiece being applied. You will feel a gentle suction as the device starts to work and the area will start to feel cold. After around 5 minutes the area will feel numb and you can lie or sit comfortably for the duration of treatment. Most people bring a book or iPad to read or check their emails!

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

As with all fat freezing systems, there is a risk of bruising, loss of sensation in the area and freeze burns. The special membrane used helps to minimize the risk of freeze burns and any other side effects are generally temporary and resolve within 24/48 hours.

HOW LONG WILL IT BE BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?

Depending on your individual metabolism, it will take between 28 days and 3 months to see the full effect of your treatment.

HOW MUCH FAT WILL I LOSE?

At ERA most of our clients lose between 2- 3 inches as a result of their treatment. Everyone is different and lifestyle choices will affect result. Treatment expectations will be discussed as part of your initial consultation.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TREATMENT?

After around 50 minutes the handpiece is removed and the area is gently massaged for around 5 minutes. After this you will be offered a detox tea or rejuvenating juice and are welcome to relax in our post treatment area, or leave straight away and carry on with your day. There is no downtime with treatment, so it’s completely up to you.
